METALLICA T-Shirt Generates Money For Morgan Dana Harrington Scholarship Fund

According to NBC29.com, METALLICA has partnered with the Virginia Tech university bookstore to produce an "Enter Sandman" shirt, with the band's share of the proceeds to be given to the Morgan Dana Harrington Scholarship Fund in hornor of the Virginia Tech student who disappeared after leaving one of the heavy metal group's concerts. The shirts went on sale in October, and the first month of sales of the shirt generated $17,000 for the scholarship fund.

The Morgan Dana Harrington Scholarship Fund has has been receiving donations to fund the scholarship. The program hopes to award a scholarship for the upcoming school year.

The Virginia Tech bookstore will be able to sell the shirts until at least next football season. After that, METALLICA and the bookstore may choose to extend the partnership.

On the evening of Saturday, October 17, 2009, Harrington attended a METALLICA concert at John Paul Jones Arena on the University of Virginia (UVA) campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. At approximately 8:30 p.m., she left the arena and was unable to re-enter the facility.

She was last seen hitchhiking for a ride from passing traffic.

Harrington's skeletal remains were later discovered on January 26, 2010, in a remote field on an Albemarle County, Virginia farm along Route 29.

In a statement posted at their official web site, called "The Loss Of A Fan," METALLICA wrote in part, "We are profoundly saddened by the news of the discovery of Morgan Dana Harrington's body . . . Mere words cannot express the anguish and grief that we know her parents Dan and Gil are feeling, and our thoughts are with them."
